SAP (Standard Assessment Procedure) is the government's method for measuring a home's energy performance. Building control requires a SAP calculation whenever your project significantly changes the thermal envelope of your property — and failing to provide one can hold up your completion certificate.

When Do You Need a SAP Calculation?

Building control will ask for a Part L compliance check in these situations — all core Hampshire Build services.

Rear & side extensions

Any extension with significant glazing (bi-fold doors, roof lanterns, large windows) will need a Part L compliance check.

Loft conversions

Adding a habitable room in a loft changes the thermal envelope of your home — SAP confirmation is standard.

Garage conversions

Converting an unheated garage into a heated living space always requires an energy assessment.

New builds

A full SAP calculation is mandatory for all new dwellings — we manage this alongside your planning and building regs package.
